Community 32 is putting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Rubey Street Park on Saturday, Sept. 5. The event is the 2nd Annual Buckets over Bullets 3on3. It starts at 8 a.m. at 412 N. Rubey St.
A team of four is $50. A team of five is $75. Fees are due the day of the tournament. Community 32 hosts it to raise awareness about gun violence. The flyer line is “Shoot hoops, not guns.”
Community 32 Inc is a Macon charity. The IRS recognized it as a 501(c)(3) in June 2025. Shawna Patterson is founder and president. The group’s site says the nonprofit was started after the death of her son, Malik Jones, 25, of Macon.
Jones was reported missing Jan. 30, 2024, after he went to Columbia. His mother and sister found his body eight days later in a wooded area in the 6100 block of North Creasy Springs Road, north of Columbia. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office treated the death as a homicide.
The site describes Jones as a graduate who was working toward becoming a music producer and who pushed younger people to finish school. It says Community 32 is the work of keeping that memory in the county: youth programs, community events, and help for people in a bind. The listed services are bill-pay help, emergency shelter, food, and yearly scholarships. The address on the donation page is 107 Daugherty St. in Macon.

Sept. 5 is also the Chamber’s Fork & Cork Artisan Festival downtown, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the Chamber calendar. That is a separate event on the same Saturday.
