A Macon man with two prior drunken-driving convictions in 2025 is charged with felony driving while intoxicated after a state trooper wrote that he was looking at his cellphone while driving a moped on Route M.
Corbin D. Reed, of Macon, was charged Oct. 27 in Macon County Circuit Court in case 26MA-CR00296 with persistent-offender driving while intoxicated, a class E felony, and driving while revoked, a class A misdemeanor, according to the complaint. Reed is 20, according to a Highway Patrol arrest report from Sept. 10. He is also charged with an infraction for using an electronic communication device while driving. The prosecutor asked the court to issue an arrest warrant.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper M. Riley wrote in the probable cause statement that at 3:47 p.m. Sept. 10 he saw the driver of an orange moped holding a cellphone, looking at it, and steering with one hand. The moped pulled into a private driveway when the trooper turned on his lights and siren.
Riley wrote that he smelled an intoxicating beverage on the driver’s breath and that the man’s eyes were watery and bloodshot. The driver said he did not have a license and drove a moped for that reason, according to the statement. A records check showed his license was revoked.
Reed told the trooper, "I have an issue with alcohol," and said he had had "one shot," Riley wrote. He refused field sobriety tests and was arrested at 4:02 p.m., according to the statement.
The complaint lists DWI convictions on July 3, 2025, in Macon County and Dec. 2, 2025, in Boone County. As a persistent offender, he would be required to serve 30 days before becoming eligible for probation or parole, according to the complaint.
Charges are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
