A Brookfield woman is being held on a $10,000 cash-only bond after Macon County prosecutors charged her with assault in the third degree of a special victim, a class D felony.
Jessica Marie Torrez was arrested Aug. 31 at 5:05 p.m. by the Macon County Sheriff's Office, according to the return on the arrest warrant. She was charged Aug. 31 in Macon County Circuit Court in case 26MA-CR00251.
Prosecuting Attorney Joshua Meisner filed one count: assault in the third degree of a special victim, a class D felony. The count alleges conduct on or about Aug. 14, 2026, in Macon County. The alleged victim was a jailer.
Associate Circuit Judge Kristen Burks issued the warrant Aug. 31, setting bond at $10,000 cash only.
The sheriff's office opened the investigation Aug. 14 after a report of a jailer in a physical altercation with a female inmate at the Macon County Jail, according to the probable cause statement filed by Deputy Jermey Nelson. Nelson wrote that EMS evaluated the jailer and that the jail administrator took her to the emergency room. The probable cause statement describes second-degree assault of a special victim. The complaint charges third-degree.
A third-degree assault of a special victim conviction carries one to seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections, a term of up to one year in the county jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both imprisonment and a fine.
A bond appearance hearing is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 3 before Judge Burks in Macon.
Charges are accusations. Torrez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
