The dog from Thursday night's crash in the Macon R-1 student parking lot will be held at the Macon County Animal Shelter at least five working days, and probably at least 10, animal control officer Dan Wright said Monday.
Wright said the dog seems well cared for and is not aggressive. "Our goal is to get dogs back to people," Wright said. If a friend stepped forward, he said, the shelter might be able to do something.
The shelter charges $3 a day to board a dog. Wright said that before a release, the shelter verifies the dog has all its shots.
Donations for the dog or the shelter may be made through the Macon Police Department, Wright said.
Sgt. Justin Dunn, Troop B public information officer for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said Monday that Macon Police told him their animal control officer secured the dog. Dunn said the patrol did not deal with the animal.
According to the probable cause statement, a dog was in the silver Camry. Maliq A. Straughter, of Columbia, is charged after the Thursday pursuit ended in the student lot.
A criminal charge is an accusation. Straughter is presumed innocent.
